Say it like it is
Yesterday, Joe Biden hit McCain hard on his disconnect from the reality of everyday American life. This concept is part of the fundamental Obama critique of McCain. Its certainly a logical step, with McCain’s age, complete and utter lack of technical skills, numerous and unknown homes, and multiple foreign cars distinguishing him from the “typical American.” But Biden didn’t hit McCain in one of those easy areas; he hit him on foreign policy and national security.
First, the setup:
“John McCain continues to insist, against all the evidence and all the facts, that Iraq is the central front in the war on terrorism… and not the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan where the people who actually attacked us on 9-11 reside and are regrouping.”
Then, the judgment:
“John is more than wrong — he is dangerously wrong. On a question so basic, so fundamental, so critical to our nation’s security, we can’t afford a Commander-in Chief so divorced from reality and from America’s most basic national interests.”
Biden is right. McCain, the so-called Maverick, refuses to budge from the neo-conservative principle of attack Iraq. It’s impossible for a group of educated and experienced members of the Bush foreign policy team to be literally so idiotic that they still believe Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, or continues with any of the reasons why we were tricked into the war in the first place. Instead, all those tricks were used as a failed ploy to spread the American way by forcing it down the throats of countries with different traditions and values. And now John McCain, who wants us to think he “bucks” the party for the good of our country, maintains the conservative Republican line.
Combating terrorism will be a priority of the next President of the United States. John McCain’s honorable family and personal history of service to the country is negligible in an analysis of his cognitive ability to protect America. He chooses to fight wars based on false pretenses that only serve to anger our enemies.
Let’s take the fight to Pakistan and Afghanistan where terrorists are again strengthening their organizations. One candidate has been calling for this move for years now. He even stood alone and opposed the war when many in his party voted to authorize the Bush foreign fiasco. Not the dupe maverick McCain, but Barack Obama. The powers of vision, inspiration, and insight will serve him well in the White House, and we all will prosper in a safe America from his leadership.
