Working for Jobs and Economy:
- Strengthened high schools and the secondary education system through No Child Left Behind.
- Preparing Americans for jobs in the 21st Century through adult education and greater emphasis on education with traditional students.
- Reforming immigration to safeguard the liberty of America, the sanctity of the law, and the strength of the American economy.
- Reforming the tax code, and strengthening Social Security for this and future generations.
Jobs and Economy Issues:
- Restraining spending by the Federal Government.
- Working with Congress to pass legislation that promotes economic growth – including making his tax cuts permanent.
- Reforming the institutions fundamental to American society, so that they can meet the realities of our new century.
- Strengthening high schools and the secondary education system.
Let’s see…
…No Child Left Behind hurt students, teachers, and school systems by forcing rigidity onto children needing flexibility.
Number two just sounds good, but it doesn’t really make any sense.
Immigration reform failed, and the Republican leadership of John McCain flip-flopped on the issue, and claimed he wouldn’t even vote for his own bill. Everyone in America was outraged over the proposal. True, Democrats were also represented in Congress at the time, but there was a black hole of leadership from the Bush Administration.
The tax code is as complicated if not more so than eight years ago when this debacle began. Wihtout arguing over specific rates and what’s “fair” or “right” to pay, let’s just agree that in a fair system, its fair for everyone to pay their fair share. Instead, the richest elite Americans and massive corporations hire teams of lawyers and accountants to minimize their liability while the average middle-class American worker has neither the time for an extensive review of the zillion-page IRS books or the financial resources to outsource the project.
And as we wind down the Bush disaster, Social Security is certainly not stronger.
Any work on economic growth was wrong. Of course its easy to look back and judge, but if the Bush Administration and Republicans want to promote their work on economic growth, we simply need to scan any news source for the headlines about the current American economy brought about by their “work”. Everyone is hurt in the current situation; major Wall Street banks are out of business and everyday Americans are finding themselves kicked out of their homes.
Number three is more pretty words like “institutions” and “fundamental,” but what does it mean?
And finally, schools are failing, with No Child Left Behind at fault. Money, Mr. Bush, money. The schools need it.
I was surprised to discover these two lists on the GOP site. Especially with the most recent economic news about everything from investment banking to mortgage foreclosures, I thought the Republicans would both slink away from Bush and his failures and hawk some new ideas. But no, they prefer to rattle off the ideals of the Bush administration for the last four years, which brought us to this disaster.
List 2 issue 1 is especially interesting in light of recent economic turmoil and the massive tax-payer funded government bailouts. Restrained spending? The only thing worse than excessive taxes and spending is the Republican model perfected by George W. Bush and supported by John McCain: lower taxes, spend tons, and drive the national economy into utter tradegy.
